School Year
2004/2005
We welcomed two new teachers to our staff this year, Miss Gill and Miss Murphy.
We also welcome all the new students who started in our school this year.
Our new accommodation was granted by the Dept of Education, and a new prefab with one classroom
and two resource rooms was installed.
Attendance medals are presented at the end of every school year for children who have attended
consistently during the year, gold for full attendance, silver for one absence and bronze for two
absences. While it is essential for children's success, to be in school as often as possible, as well
as being a legal requirement, it shows great commitment (and good health) on behalf of parents
and children to be in school every day during the year.
k'nex
Congratulations to Sarah-Jane Kennedy and Clodagh Jacob who came first in the school competition. The girls
designed a space buggy and went forward to represent the school at the regional finals in Maynooth
School Tours
All enjoyed our annual trip to the Gaeity Theatre in January. The summer tours took place in June. The senior
classes travelled to Kilcullen to the 'Lets Go Dynamic Day Camp' and the junior classes went to the National Stud,
Japanese Gardens and the Playground in Newbridge.
School Choirs
We would like to say a big thank you to all the girls who participated in the First Confession, First Communion
and Confirmation choirs this year. also well done to Kerry Phelan who sang solo at both First Communion
and Confirmation ceremonies. We appreciate the effort made in attending these events.
Football
The football teams had a very successful year under the watchful eye of Miss O' Meara. We would like to thank
the parents who make themselves available to drive the children to their football matches. This year our football
teams achieved 'Best Dressed' status. A big thank you to Martin Corley Tyres for the sponsorship of our new jerseys
and to Judge Haulage for the sponsorship of our football shorts and socks. In October we reached the u11 final and
lost by only 2 points to a very strong Derrinturn team. However;, that did not stop us and the mini 7's team won out
the competition in the county. This was a marvellous achievement as we played against many larger schools. The senior
team reached the county quarter finals. The girls played their hearts out and trailed by only one point throughout the
game. All the girls must be complimented on their sportsmanship throughout the competition.
Congratulations to Tara Higgins and Niamh Quinn on being chosen to play in Croke Park during the interval in the
semi-final between Armagh and Tyrone on Sunday the 4th September.
We have in our midst many fine players and we wish the 6th class the best of luck. We look forward to seeing them
playing for club and county in the future.
Basketball
Our basketball players did us proud this year. They were runners up in the Cumann na mBunscoil final and in the blitz final in February. We won the Community Games u13 basketball competition in April. Congratulations to all of the girls who participated.
Community Games
Well done to all our winners in the Community Games Art Competition. We also had a pupil on the quiz team which came
2nd in Kildare county.
Parish Sports
This year we held the annual parish sports. Although the weather was inclement on the day, it was still a very enjoyable
and competitive day for the children of Allen Parish. It was a very successful fund-raising event for the school due to
the generosity of our many sponsors. We would like to thank all the parents who were involved in the preparation and
helped on the day of the sports. Thank you to the teachers and staff from the other schools in the parish who helped
with the races on the day
The hardworking staff wish to congratulate all the students on completion of another school year
and to wish the sixth class success and happiness in their new schools as we are all very
proud of their many achievements and talents.
