Ballydonegan Beach

Ballydonegan Beach

Ballydonegan strand is a beautiful white sandy beach that lies about a mile south of the village. The sand was carried down during the last century, at a time when copper was being mined. The stone needed to be crushed in order to extract the copper ore leaving the sand as a residue. Eventually this was washed down by the Ballydonegan river and created a small haven at the edge of the Atlantic.

It has become a favourite spot for tourists and locals alike. The shore is used for swimming, sunbathing, walking, flying kites, horse riding and many other activities.

There are public toilets close to the beach and a camp site with showers. The small pier has a crane winch suitable for launching small boats.
