Allihies Countrywomen's association was founded on the 5th of November 1974. At present we have 31 members. We meet every two weeks on Tuesday nights. Most of our members come from farming background. Some are involved in farming, some in tourism and others work outside the home.

Our aims are to improve the lifestyles of our country women and their families.

Over the years we have organised Santy's visit to Allihies, we help out with the entertainment of our senior citizens. We also arrange to have experts talk to our guild on different matters e.g. medical problems, finance and insurance, healthy eating, alternative medicine and others. Some of our members have attended the An Grianan College doing different Arts and Crafts. We also do arts and crafts at local level such as painting, flower arranging embroidery, lace making, pottery, cooking, baking and cake decorating.

To raise funds, we have cake sales and raffles. Some of the funds we give to charitable organisations such as our local hospital in Castletownbere, the Hospice Fund, the Kidney Dialysis Unit in the Cork University Hospital and other local charities.

We take part in Quiz competitions for I.C.A. members. In 1995 we won the Cork County Federation Quiz. We encourage others to become members of our guild and they are made very welcome. We are proud of our achievements to date.
