Domain name Hijacking
Our old domain allihies.com was 'hijacked' in May 04 by a profiteering person. This resulted in some front page news in the Irish examiner and the radio.
The Garda Computer Forensic team looked into the matter but have said there is nothing they can do as this activity is not illegal.

Extension of Allihies Sewerage Scheme
A request for full sewage treatment to be installed throughout the Bantry Bay coastal zone has resulted in funding for the extension of the Allihies Sewerage Scheme to the tune of €30,750. It is anticipated that one quarter of the total cost of this work will be met by Cork County Council, with 37.5% provided by CLÁR and a further 37.5% provided by the Department of Environment & Local Government.
Mines Museum on the mend
The roof is on and the widows are in! The walls are plastered and the models are being made. This much we know... The Coop held an open day in the new building to give everyone an idea of what is happening in the future.
Pony Club Finds a new trainning ground
The pony clubs has found a new place to put their members through their paces. Situated in what is known locally as "the floors" it is on a piece of ground belonging to the commision of public works.
Company Scout on the mend! July 2001
One of the little known tracks in the Parish has also had a face lift. Does anyone know the origin of it's unusual name? This beautiful walk conects between the village and the old mines stable yard near the An Oige hostel. The council have made repairs and graded the road. making it easier to walk on and a delightful ride for the pony riders. One of the deminishing number of roads in the Parish which are not tarred.
Web makers back at work July 2001
After his sojourn in bantry hospital for four weeks Dave is back at the keyboard and the web sites are once again flying out the door. With the invaluable help of Karin Grace and Karina Jeisy the Allihies Site is getting an overhaul. All contribute their time on a volentary basis and any other contributions would be welcome!
Swimmers swim and rider ride. 9th 14th July 2001
Many of the allihies pony club members went on the annual camp at Willie Santry's riding school and enjoyed a good week of weather and activities. Local parents kindly accomodated the Allihies visitors and most passed their tests with flying colours. Our regular instructor, Nicky, said the standard was very high this year.
Mean while in Allihies up to fourty children a day were instructed in swimming and life saving at Ballydonegan beach. Morris the instructor proved very popular and all the children made great progress.
Work in the village near completion July 2001
The burying of the overhead electric and phone cables is nearly completed and the new tarmac is finding good use with the roller bladers and scooterers in Cluin. The disruption has been hard to live with but the end result worth the wait.

Car crusher arrives. February 5th 2001
The beginning of spring in Allihies and the urge to clean up seems to have gripped the Parish. Today saw the arrival of the car crusher from Cork, arranged by the Allihies Parish Coop. Frank Creedon and Donal O'Sullivan had their hands full coordinating the collection of cars which would never again move under their own steam.
The entrance to the copper mines road was piled high with over thirty wreaks and the mobile machine was keep busy. A great clean up operation for a problem which is acute for a remote area with little access to scrap yards.
