THE FRIAR OF SAN GIOVANNI

BY Máiréad Tuohy Duffy

The humble friar, the Stigmatist,
Who healed his aching mankind,
So Christian in his suffering sphere,
The Friar of San Giovanni.

His parents were quite poor, but good,
In Petralcina's Village,
They reared their child to love the Lord,
The Friar of San Giovanni.

Prophet, Mystic, Confessor great,
Bi-locationist, seer so candid,
He won the hearts of young and old,
The Friar of San Giovanni.

He comes when e'er you wish him here,
With perfume sweet and heavenly
This gentle priest, this holy man.
The Friar of San Giovanni.

O Padre Pio, O Padre Pio,
Hear our prayer, Dear Father,
O come and bless us sinners all,
You, the Friar of San Giovanni.

We place all problems in those hands,
Which bled like Christ's in Calvary,
Your painful wounds, you tried to hide
Humble Friar of San Giovanni.

In a world, where evil is rampant, ' round,
We cry, "O Friend, please help us,"
Bring peace with justice to all troubled lands
Friar and flower of San Giovanni.
