Viatores Christi
Viatores Christi is a Catholic Lay Missionary Association which was founded
in 1960.It aims to respond to needs overseas and to give people an opportunity
to share their lives and faith in another culture. The assignments occur mainly
in the areas of
· health
· education
· trades
· pastoral
· social
· administration
· secretarial
· technological fields.
The communities in which we work are richly varied by geographic region, culture, religious beliefs, language, race and economic conditions. Local leaders and indigenous organisations request members of Viatores Christi to work with local people on projects identified as being important for their sustainable development. They also live in and take part in the community.
Lay missionaries respond to the overseas community in terms of solidarity,
skills, faith and perform a wide variety of tasks. On their return home the
Viatores share their experiences in local schools and communities and give freely
of their time to the development of the Association.
Viatores Christi is a member of the Irish Missionary Union and the National
Mission Council. We keep close contact with the many missionary societies working
here at home and abroad and also with other agencies involved in overseas service.
It is through these contacts that we place our members on assignments.
