1977 Club Relaunch (Click here for picture)
Another bit of club history.........
Keeping the club alive over the years has, putting it mildly,
not been easy. There have been many dark periods when it seemed
that survival was impossible. Always some group of young people
would take up the challenge and through their efforts, would ensure
that the club would remain alive and active. Having such people
available has always been one of the greatest strengths of this
youth club.
This "Nationalist" clipping of 20 January '77 deals with one of
those "dark periods" when closure seemed imminent. The reasons
at that time are spelt out in the clipping . The younger members
of the group met the following day and decided that they needed
to preserve the club for themselves and other young people. This
they did, having undertaken leadership training to better equip
themselves for the task.
Our photo shows five of the new leaders launching their new club
in March '77. From LEFT they are
Liam Keogh, Michael Condren, Finbarr Bride, Eddie Walsh and (standing)
T.J. Grey.
