Ballytrasna

OS Map Ref. S 2117.5 1475.0
Road:
N8 County Tipperary

This child's memorial is the first of two monuments which are within a mile of each other on the roadside about three miles south of Horse & Jockey. (See also "Horse & Jockey".) This one here, enclosed in a limestone covering, is on a mound, raised slightly above the level of the road.

There is a wide sweeping turn 5 miles after leaving Cashel which begins with a left-hand bend at a very wide part of the road. Just before this bend is Ballytrasna National School. Though you will hardly see the school behind greenery on the left hand side; you can look out for school crossing signs. This monument is a very short distance on the Cashel side of this school, on the same side of the road.

From Dublin, after the long straight stretch which goes through Horse & Jockey, the road takes a long sweeping bend to the right. At the other end of that bend, where there is a lot of clear ground on the left hand side of the road opposite Ballytrasna school. Look out for the monument on the same side as the school and about a tenth of a mile beyond it, just before a minor road which goes off to the right.

In loving memory of Margaret McInerney,
died 3rd Oct. 1967
aged 8 years.
RIP.

A million times we've missed you
A million times we've cried
If love could have saved you,
You never would have died.
If we had a lifetime wish,
A dream that would come true,
We'd pray to God,
With all our hearts,
For yesterday -- and you
Love, from Mammy, Daddy and family.
