2002 Season to date

Ardrahan defeated AbbeyDunirey in a close encounter in the second group match of this year. The team was much changed from the first match of the campaign due to a finger injury suffered by Joseph O Leary in that match which ruled out his inclusion. The match was not free flowing due to the best efforts of the referee to make hurling a non-contact sport! Some decisions left the teams and both sets of supporters scratching their heads in amazement. The final score finished at Ardrahan: 13pts Abbeydunirey: 11pts. Ardrahan started well and lead by 2 pts. at half time. AbbeyDunirey drew level twice late in the second half but Ardrahan pulled away to shade this encounter. David Greene finished with a tally of 5 pts. from frees. Iarla Tannien gave a storming display at midfield and contributed 2 pts. Colm O Doherty showed sharpness at wing forward and finished with 2 pts. David Holland scored a point on his debut senior start. Rory Burke battled well at centre forward and scored 1 point. Dermot Fahy scored an inspirational point from a free deep in Ardrahan's half in the first half of the match. Other people that impressed were the Full back line of Michael Brennan, Colin Whirisky and John Joe Brennan. The half back line were as dominating as ever with Damien Shaughnessy back in his customary position following the necessary re-shuffle of the team. Seamas O Neill was a lively presence at mid-field. Ivan Linnane contributed well despite suffering a head injury in the early exchanges which saw him leave the field of play for 10 minutes. This was a deserved victory for Ardrahan and leaves them second in the group all teams having played two matches.

In the first match of the 2002 campaign Ardrahan drew with Kilconieran in Athenry on the 27th April. Liam Burke drew for Kilconieran with a close range free deep into injury time. Best for Ardrahan were Ciaran Callanan who double saved shots from close range at a critical time of the match, Colin Whirisky - a commanding presence at full-back, The half-back line of Dermot Fahy, Fergal Fahy(1 point) and Joe O Leary - they dominated their opponents throughout the match, the midfield pairing of the outstanding Damien Shaughnessy (who must be in line for a county call up given his consistency and skill) and the young Iarla Tannien(1 point) who battled throughout. In the forwards Ivan Linnane dazzled at times with skill and nerve, scoring 2 points one of which had the crowd open mouthed in appreciation of his ballet skills! David Greene produced his now customary display of score taking, finishing with a tally of 1 : 4 (3 frees), the goal came in the first half when his strength stood to him in a goal mouth tussle, Pat Murphy battled throughout and was unlucky in the first half with a shot hitting the post, Rory Burke proved himself a strong presence at centre forward finishing with 2 well taken points. David Holland caused problems for the Kilconieran backs when introduced for the injured Joe O Leary in the second half. Ardrahan lead throughout the match and may consider themselves unlucky to not take the maximum points from this encounter. Kilconieran may also rue missed chances to steal the match, free taking was a huge problem for them on the day with several close range frees missing the target. Match conditions did not help either team, the rain of the past couple of days left the pitch water logged in places. All in all an unlucky draw for Ardrahan, better luck against the three remaining opponents.

2001 Season

In the last match of their group Ardrahan defeated Kilnadeema-Letrim in a replay by 2 points to avoid the relegation battle.
