Arklow Gymnasts up there with the best in Ireland

Sara Kenny And Joy Redmond take the overall trophy with highest score of the Championship.

Two days, Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th May a packed St Mary's college sports hall came alive to the sound of music, disciplined routines showing maganificent elegance and acrobatic skills on a sprung floor.

250 gymnasts from the 32 counties representing 7 regions Midlands, South Dublin, South East, South West, Northern, Western and Southern enjoyed and participated in these championships hosted by Arklow Gym Club in association with the local Community Games and sponsored by Arklow Credit Union Ltd. Wicklow Vale Emporium and many local business houses.

Arklow's 8 gymnasts did themselfs, their club and the South East region proud and proved they can hold their own with the best in Ireland.

16 pairs took part in level 1 girls pairs final and Sara Kenny and Joy Redmond put on an outstanding display of acrobatic skills with magnificent elegance to take the gold medal and on Sunday evening at the closing ceremony Sara and Joy were awarded the overall trophy for the highest score of the championships 8.95 out of a possible 10.

In the same competition Natasha Byrne and Stacey Carater Finished in fourth place just out of the medals.

7 pairs took part in the level 1 boys pairs finals and Neill Brauders and Jason O'Byrne excelled in their routine to take the gold Medal.

6 pairs took part in the level 1 mixed pairs final and Jason O'Byrne and Katie Rowan took the bronze medal but Neill Brauders and Stephanie Dowling had to be content with a lower placing.

Arklow gym club wish to thank everybody who helped to make these championships the tremendous success they were.

44 arklow gymnasts are now in training for the County Wicklow E.S.B. Community Games finals which will take place in Arklow on sunday 17th June at 2pm.
