Labour & childbirth The
best oils for Labour are Lavender
and
Jasmine
as they are
genuinely useful.
These two oils in particular strengthen and deepen the contractions
while at the same time having an analgesic, or pain relieving, effect. Either
of these oils can be gently rubbed into the tummy and/or lower back from
the beginning of labour. It is advisable that some preparation be taken: it needs to be decided well in advance who is going to be massaging so that they know exactly what to do and what is expected of them the helper should be shown in advance how to apply oil in long smooth movements preferably with fairly firm pressure Mix
the oils you plan to use some time in advance as when labour begins there
may not be time to measure oils accurately, also with excitement oils may
be knocked over a
few drops of lavender in cool water will make a refreshing blend with
which to sponge the mother’s face and possibly her body if she is very
hot a
few drops on a light bulb or burner will cleanse and freshen the air of
the room where the baby will be born Jasmine
should be used straight after the baby’s birth to help expel the
afterbirth quickly and cleanly.
It will also help tone the uterine muscles and assist them in
returning to their pre-pregnancy state quicker Jasmine
is also a very good anti-depressant therefore great for anyone who may
suffer
from post-natal depression Fennel tea and oil help promote the flow of breast milk
