Askeaton Castle and Franciscan Friary

The Castle was built in 1199. Askeaton Friary was founded probably by Gerald ''The Poet" 4th Earl of Desmond around 1400.

Home of the Geraldine Earls of Desmond. The notable
building is the Desmond Hall which is a two storey building with a small turret.
Between the Hall and the River Arra is a banqueting hall known as the Great

Foynes Flying Boat Museum

This museum recalls the 1930's and 1940 when Foynes
port was the focus point for air traffic between the U.S.A. and Europe. The flying boats called there frequently. Open daily from April to October.



Glin Castle and Gardens

This was built in 1780's and noted for its interior and delicate plasterwork, It is set in beautiful gardens. Overnight stays
are facilitated.

Here are ruins of houses since pre-Famine days, some of which are restored. Paths and walkways have been developed around the Mass Rock and Black Hill. Open all the year round.

Shanagolden Manisternagalliagduff Convent,

This abbey is situated about 2 miles east of Shanagolden is one of the few nunneries known to us and dates back to the 13th century. A room of the church is called ''The Black Hag's Cell'' where tradition says that the last abbess practised witchcraft.
