Castlemahon Awaits President

President Mcaleese visited Castlemahon on Wednesday 9th June 1999. To launch 154 years of local History from 1845-1999 and to the unveiling of three placks one was old Mahoonagh Abbey, two was Bord na Cealla, Famine graveyard and the third was a priest plaque in the priests graveyard.

 

Anne Phelan famous Violinist


Anne Phelan was born 10th May 1976 knew all her scales on the piano before starting school. At the age of five she got her first violin lesson, from sister Frances Bluett at the convent in Buttevant from 1982 -1986. She travelled to Charleville every Monday evening for lessons on the piano and violin from music teacher Maura McAuliffe. In 1986 she won a scholarship to both Cork school of music and the Royal Irish Academy of music, in Dublin and she choose the R.I.A.M.

 

Kathleen Tailor


Two Siberian Tigers settle down in Castlemahon in November 1990, Castlemahon hit the headlines and made History. The home of Stafford and Kathleen Tailor in Mahoonagh Castlemahon. They bought a christmas present of two Siberian tigers for their daughter Andrea, the names of the tigers were Nova and Batack. The animals were delivered by Chipperfield Circus to their new home, which was built to the specify standards. The large enforce double cage where they were kept was in spected before hand for the safe keeping of these animals.
