FOYNES HOSPITAL
In 1949 Dr. Noel Browne, Minister for Health, opened the new children's hospital at Foynes. The hospital, formerly the Foynes hostel for air assengers, was converted into a TB preventorium within one month of the Limerick County Council's acceptance of the Minister's offer to hand over the building to them. A grant of 100 per cent was given for necessary alterations. The institution was blessed by Very Rev F Rice PP, Shanagolden, assisted by Rev J O'Byrne CC, and Rev J Cussen CC. |
