FOYNES HOSPITAL

NOEL BROWNE

In 1949 Dr. Noel Browne, Minister for Health, opened the new children's hospital at Foynes. The hospital, formerly the Foynes hostel for air assengers, was converted into a TB preventorium within one month of the Limerick County Council's acceptance of the Minister's offer to hand over the building to them.

A grant of 100 per cent was given for necessary alterations. The institution was blessed by Very Rev F Rice PP, Shanagolden, assisted by Rev J O'Byrne CC, and Rev J Cussen CC.
