On the 1st of January 2002 - euro notes and coins will replace the punt as legal tender. The euro will be used in 12 European Countries which are Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal and Spain. From Saturday 9th of February the Irish Punt will no longer be legal tender. One euro is worth just under 79p and one punt is worth one euro and twenty seven cent.
