GOLF CONDITIONING SPECIALIST

Why is it that most golfers feel they can improve their golf game by spending large amounts of money on new and better equipment? The most important piece of equipment won’t be found at the golf shop. But if conditioned properly, this one piece of equipment can improve your game tremendously. Do you have any guesses? Of course, I’m referring to your body. Many of us take up the sport of golf once we feel that our bodies can no longer take the punishment of other contact or aerobic sports. If this fact was true, the 24 million golfers that have come into the sport would sustain no injuries nor have any complaints of pain. Most of us whom play golf know that this is far from the truth.

In America alone there are an estimated 24 million golfers and approximately 2 million entering the sport each year. The numbers show that 75 percent of these individuals will sustain one injury from golf. To be more specific, the numbers show that between the age of 30 & 50, a golfer will sustain an injury every three years. The aging process also causes us to lose 3 percent of our muscle strength annually, which can have a direct impact on our golf game. After the age of fifty, the aging process can increase the injury rate significantly. So why aren’t  you getting yourself into “golf shape”?

Many golfers feel that playing and practicing golf is enough to get them into “golf shape”. Not so,because the average golf swing occurs in approximately 1 –1.2 seconds, the actual act of playing a 4-5 hour round occurs within 2-3 minutes. Since the golf swing also requires almost every muscle on both sides of the body to activate and fire sequentially to generate the proper golf swing, playing or practicing golf is not enough time to stimulate a physiological response within the muscle tissue. Golfers need to be placed on a regular flexibility, aerobic conditioning, balance, and golf-specific conditioning program to prevent themselves from becoming one of the injury statistics.

What areas within your game would you like to see improve?

  • Would you like to drive the ball 10-12 yards further?
  • Would you like to play a full round and not have any pain?
  • Would you like to play a full round and not feel tired for the rest of your day?
  • Would you like to see a more accurate ball flight?
  • Would you like to see an increase in your clubhead speed, which increases distance?

Benefits of a golf conditioning program:

  • Decrease the physiological effects of the aging process, which are decreased strength, flexibility, endurance, and balance.
  • Increase your clubhead speed, driving distance, and accuracy.
  • Decrease your injury risk due to proper conditioning which increase your longevity of playing “golf for a lifetime”.
  • Decrease recovery times if you should sustain an injury.
  • Increase ability to perform the golf swing correctly and reach the new areas with your golf instructor.
  • You will understand your “golf body” and know “your golf swing”.
  • Increase the enjoyment of playing because your body is not as fatigued or injured.

Components of a golf conditioning program:

Your first visit will take approx 1.5 - 2 hours

  • visually analyze posture and determine if you have any musculoskeletal disorders
  • assess your muscular strength
  • assess your muscular endurance
  • assess your blance
  • assess the flexibility of your golf related muscles
  • a basic physical assessment of the golf swing
  • the stages of the golf swing and why proper conditioning can improve your swing
  • assessment for common golf related injuries
  • custom stability ball exercise and stretch program designed for you to restore/improve proper function

The importance of a golf conditioning program more often goes overlooked, but can prove to be the best investment one can make when trying to improve their golf game.

simply put:

You could not play golf with a club which has a loose swiveling head, a spring in the middle of the shaft and a grip that flys off ! likewise you can not play golf with a body that has a crooked posture, does not flex, and is un-balanced

So if you want to:

flex your body into the swing

increase power,speed and accuracy

decrease your risk of injury,

play golf painfree,

play “golf for a lifetime”

you should consider making an appointment and be assured that you are fit to play a better golf game. The research indicates that golfers who are involved in a golf specific exercise program improve their handicap faster than those not involved in any golf specific program. These golfers also have less risk of sustaining an injury from golf due to their conditioning program.
