Glendalough
Avalon is only 5 to 10 minutes walk from Glendalough famed for it’s beauty and historic monuments. Here in the 6th century St. Kevin founded a monastery which expanded and flourished for about 600 years before been destroyed in 1398. The buildings which remain probably date from between the 8th and 12th centuries. The most notable being the round tower which is still in superb condition and the stone churches and decorated crosses. Having wandered around the monastic city why not then take a stroll around the lakes. Glendalough is a walkers paradise. Hill-walking is very popular with some breathtaking views over the valley and far beyond. There are also plenty of short walks for the less energetic and the Wicklow Way is only half a kilometre away from us.Wicklow
