Galway Bay is renowned in song and story, once visited the experience will never be forgotten.

Beautiful Bell Harbour is situated between the hills of the Burren and the southern coast line of Galway Bay between Kinvara and Ballyvaughan. The Village is surrounded by megathlithic tombs such as Poulnabrone Dolmen, celtic ring forts, medieval churches and castles.

Bell Harbour is a place where the visitors can refresh their spirits away from the everyday hustle and bustle of life.

Explore this outlandish landscape - famous for it's unique flora and fauna - by car, bike or hiking on its many hills. The green roads and bohreens are beautiful in their loneliness, each one revealing something magical and intriguing. To experience real peace and tranquility enjoy an early morning stroll with the natural sound track of the dawn chorus.

Nearby is the Abbey of Corcomroe (Sancta Maria de Petra Fertili / St. Mary of the fertile rock) - founded by Dónal O Brien, King of Limerick, in 1194 for the Cistercian Monks - and extensive remains of the early christian chruches of Oughtmama.

It is one of the most peaceful places on earth. It lies surrounded by green fields and limestone hills and you can usually have the place to yourself if you stay awhile.

However, the greatest attraction is the spectacular Aillwee caves. Discovered in 1944 by a local farmer, the caves are estimated to be 2 million years old. With the largest passage 600m long and an abundance of stalactites and stalagmites the Aillwee caves are a dream come true for the cave-lover and potholer.

The beaches and coast line are ideal for swimming, surfing, kayaking, scuba diving, boating and fishing.

The lively pubs and up market restaurants in the area are indeed a joy for both locals and visitors.

Close to the village is the restored Dun Guaire Castle. Built in the 16th century the castle is now open to the public to see many Irish traditions.

A short drive down the coast brings you to the majestic
Cliffs of Moher, battling daily with the Atlantic ocean. They rise in places to over 200 meters.

Ferries serving the
Aran Islands from Doolin Harbour during the summer.
