Breastfeeding
Preparation Classes
One of the most
important choices you will need to make as a new parent is whether to
breastfeed your baby or not.
Breastfeeding is the most precious
gift a mother can give her baby, a wonderful part of parenting and
natures way of protecting and nourishing your baby. Breastmilk is the
best and most nutritious food available, protecting your baby from
illnesses and ensuring his/her healthy physical and psychological
development.
For mothers, research shows that
breastfeeding provides such health benefits as reducing the risk of
pre-menopausal breast and ovarian cancer by 50%, reducing post partum
bleeding and anaemia and reducing the risk of oesteoporosis in later
life.
It is important to realise that
whether you decide to breastfeed for days, weeks, months or longer
that any amount of breastfeeding is beneficial to you and your
baby.

PREPARATION CLASSES
Some anxieties, questions and
concerns, are common to new mothers when deciding whether to
breastfeed or not. Will breastfeeding hurt? Why did my friend have
problems? How will I know if I am producing enough milk? Maybe even
doubts about your ability to breastfeed.
Breastfeeding a newborn baby is a
most wonderful and fulfilling experience for both mother and father.
The sense of achievement you will both feel as breastfeeding
satisfies all your babies needs is a reward in itself and the
knowledge that you are giving your baby the best possible start in
life makes all your efforts worthwhile.
However, although breastfeeding is
'the most natural' way to feed your baby it does not always come
naturally! For most of us, like any new skill, breastfeeding is a
learned process for both mother and baby which takes preparation and
practice at, before it comes naturally.
As a new mother who has decided or
