Julie O'Connor
I am a Registered General Nurse, Registered Midwife and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. My experience in the field of Midwifery/Breastfeeding is extensive and has been gained over the last 13 years in maternity hospitals in the U.K, Saudi Arabia and Ireland. In the U.K, I worked with breastfeeding mothers in the community.
I have built up a large network of contacts whilst working in the four main maternity hospitals in Dublin. From Midwives - to Matrons - to Obstetricians and Paediatricians.
In addition I have personal experience of having breastfed three children of my own and have earned the right to add I.B.C.L.C. to my nursing and midwifery qualifications. I am at present the P.R.O. for the Association Of Lactation Consultants Of Ireland.
The Lactation Consultant / What is an IBCLC ?
For years many medical and nursing professionals have served as lactation consultants . With the great international movement to re-embrace breastfeeding the healthcare professional is now specialising in the practices and management of breastfeeding.
The International Board Of Lactation Consultant Examiners, (IBCLE) , was set up to accredit individuals who wish to counsel on breastfeeding practices and management. Those who successfully complete the IBCLE certification process are then entitled touse the designation; International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), after their names.
