First Aid

For several years now First Aid has been an integral part of our Transition Year Programme.  First Aid is a skill, based on kowledge, training and experience.  The course which has a theoretical and practical basis is conducted under the auspices of the Order of Malta.

Students acquire the skills to deal with emergencies in a confidant and competent manner whether in the school/workplace, at leisure or at home.

The course deals with the functions of the human body and the actions to be taken when it is impaired or injured.  Students learn how to carry out Cardio-Pulmonary Resusitation (CPR), mouth to mouth resusitaion, the abdominal thrust and how to apply various types of bandages.

As well as acquiring knowledge and skills students also develop a sense of responsibility and a caring attitude towards others.
