St.
Mary's Castleisland 103
Lundy Foods Ballina 70
Lundy Foods made the long trip to
Castleisland with the home team emerging
victorious in a bruising encounter.
Ballina with a starting five of Fergus
Foody, David Melia, Geariod Leonard Ronan
Ryan and Paul Freeman could not match the
outside shooting of Castleislands Declan
Wall and Tom Fleming, leaving the scores
22 -4 after five minutes.
At this stage Padraic Roche and Colm
Leonard were introduced and this two
young players brought a much needed spark
to the team, leaving the scores 47-27
down at the break. Ballina started the
second half with David Melia scoring from
outside and Aidan Tighe scoring with some
great drives to the basket.
In the third quarter Lundys were putting
the home team under pressure and two
Castleisland players were disqualified in
what was becoming a very physical game,
by the end of the game the home team had
six players fouled out and the away had
two. In the final quarter Lundys with
four seventeen year old players on court,
played great fast break basketball .The
future is very bright for this very young
and talented team with the average age
just nineteen. Best for the home were
Darby Buckley, Mike Broderick and the
impressive point guard Declan Wall. Lundy
Foods had good performances from Aidan
Tighe, David Melia, Colm Leonard and
Padraic Roche.
Lundy Foods are away to Queens Belfast
