LUNDY FOODS BALLINA 69
ADC MOYCULLEN GALWAY 98
Lundy Foods travelled to Galway on
Saturday last to take on the last years
league runners -up Moycullen. Lundy Foods
started the game positively with Fergus
Foody and Colm Leonard scoring with
outside shoots to trail by 8-11 after
five minutes. At this stage in the game
Moycullen scored freely to lead 21-8 with
great outside shooting from Marcus O
Grady and Glenn Hynes. Once again Fergus
Foody and Colm Leonard replied for this
Ballina team with successful free throws
to leave the score at the end of the
first quarter 27-14.
In the second quarter Lundy foods
switched to a man to man defence to stop
Moycullens outside shooting. Ballina got
off to a good start with great steals by
fergus Foody to set up fast break baskets.
To leave the scores 31-18. Moycullen with
their outside shooting stopped, worked
the ball into 6-6 John Cunningham and he
scored five baskets in a row. Paul
Freeman had his best period in the game
with ten points at the end of the second
quarter to leave the half time score 52-30.
At half time it became evident that Lundy
Foods had not the overall physical
presence to match Moycullens. But this
did not deter this young Ballina team,
and against the odds cut the Moycullen
lead to twelve points 52- 40, with good
outside shoots from Fergus Foody and
David Melia. But once again Moycullen
stretched their lead with three pointers
from Hynes and Dara Canavan to lead 73 -
50 at the end of the third quarter. Lundy
Foods had their best display in this
quarter to score 20 points to Moycullens
21 points, whilst running all their bench
players.
In the last quarter all of the Lundy
Foods players got on the score sheet .Man
of the match Fergus Foody added to his
tally with a further 12 points and the
same player made 14 free throws from 18
