eagerly awaited matc between
Westaro and Lundy Foods finally
took place in An Sportlann,
Castlebar. Both teams were well
charged up for this local derby
game. Westaro started the first
quarter with all guns blazing adn
some fine outside shooting form
robert Fahy and Mike Murray,they
were deserving leaders 19-13 at
the end of the first quarter.
With Colm Moran and Shane
Fitzmaurice dominating the
boards, they extended hteir lead
to 40-22 by the end of the first
half. using the third quarter to
run the bench nearly proved fatal
for Westaro. Lundy Foods hauled
back the deficit and Westaro led
50-47 at the end of the quarter.
this lead to a highly charged adn
pulsating final quarter. With 6
minutes remianing on the clock,
the sides were level 51-51. It
took great team spirit and
commitment to withstand this
pressure and Westaro responded
with some crucial tap-ins from
Ollie Moran. Top scorer Mike
Murray was fouled out with 3
minutes remaining, but Westaro
held out to collect 2 valuable
league points. |
