BALLINA COLTS 75
BALLINROBE 98
Ballinrobe travelled to Balllina on
Sunday for this top of the table clash,
and they went home with a well-deserved
victory. Colts with several regulars
players missing, had a starting five of
Simon Walshe, Martin Wynne, David Melia,
Padraic Roche and Oisin Ginty. Ballina
got off to a good start with several
impressive baskets both inside and out
from Martin Wynne. Robert Bowe pushed
Ballinrobe into the lead 14-11 with good
baskets . At the end of the first quarter
Ballinrobe lead 22-16.
Ballina Colts started the second quarter
with three pointers from Padraic Roche to
level the scores 22-22. The two teams
went basket for basket for the rest of
the quarter, until Jamie Wall hit some
good shoots to push Ballinrobe into the
lead 44-32.
At the start of the second half Martin
Wynne got some very good drives to the
basket to keep Ballina in touch. At this
stage Ballina were in trouble under the
boards, and could not match Ballinrobes
much stronger and taller presence.
Maurice Horan and Robert Bowe got several
scores inside to increase the lead to 58-43.
At the end of the third quarter David Mc
Dermot scored a big three pointer to
leave the scores 63- 46.
At the start of the final quarter Jamie
Wall pushed the lead to 26 points 74-48.
David Melia started the Ballina comeback
with a big three pointer. Ballina Colts
went into a full court press and with
great steals Colin Kennedy and Padraic
Roche cut the lead to 65-76. Once again
Roche and Wynne got good scores and the
lead was cut to 5 points 75 - 80 with
three minutes on the clock.
At this stage Ballina lost Padraic Roche
with an injury and both David Melia and
Oisin Ginty were fouled out. In the final
minutes Ballinrobe got several easy
baskets to finish winners by 98-75, with
Ballina failing to score in this period.
Best for Ballinrobe were Jamie Wall,
Maurice Horan and Martin Mc Andrew.
Ballina had good displays from Padraic
Roche and Martin Wynne.
