In the second of Lundy Foods two fixtures
this game in the Neptune Stadium on
Sunday this game was a story of two
halves. In the first half Ballina match
this Cork team and went basket for
basket, but in the second half Neptune
out classed their opposition. Lundy Foods
got off to the best starts with Aidan
Tighe scoring straight from the tip-off.
Paul Freeman added a shoot from the base
line and lead 4-0. Neptune cut the lead
with two fast breaks to leave the scores
8-6 .The Ballina team were playing superb
defence with Fergus Foody controlling the
boards. Towards the end of the quarter
both teams went basket for basket to
leave the scores 12-12 at the end of the
first quarter.
At the start of the second quarter David
Melia made a three pointer but Neptune
work the ball inside to score to leave
the scores 18-18. Lundy Foods introduced
Kevin Moran from the bench and he got on
the score sheet straight away, but former
super league players G.Gallgey and Alan
Kelly replied for Neptune to leave the
score 24-26. At the end off the quarter
Freeman and Moran added further baskets
to leave the score 28-28.
In the third quarter Neptune hit five
three pointers to open up a 14 lead.
Padraic Roche hit a three to keep Ballina
close but Neptune had taken control of
the boards and ran the court with easy.
Paul Freeman and Kevin Moran got good
baskets to leave the score at the end of
the quarter 61-47.
In final quarter Lundy Foods ran their
entire bench players and all tried hard.
Neptune ran out easy winners, but Lundy
Foods played very well against this well
drilled team featuring several super
league players. Best for the losers were
Paul Freeman and Kevin Moran.
