Lundy Foods made the long journey to
Limerick on Saturday night, with a
comprehensive victory.
Ballina had top scores Colm Leonard and
Spanish student Miguel Munoz missing
through injury, both players will return
for the final three league fixtures.
Lundy Foods raced into a 4-0 lead in the
first minute with two fast break baskets
from Aidan Tighe. The same player got
three steals in a row to set up Fergus
Foody for three baskets in a row to leave
the score 12-3. At the end of the first
quarter the lead was 21-14.
In the second quarter Crescent cut the
lead with fine perimeter shooting from
Nathan Briganti to leave the scores 24-21.
At this stage, every time Ballina went on
a fast breaks they were fouled and from
the free throw line made ten from eleven
attempts to leave the score 36-23.
Crescent made two three pointers in a row
to leave the half time score 40-34 in
Ballinas favour.
In the third quarter Lundy Foods fast
break game got going. Both Kevin Lenahan
and Paul Freeman getting four baskets
apiece in this quarter to open up a 61-
39 lead .The Marrinan brothers Enda and
Paul scored to close the lead, but at the
end of the quarter Aidan Tighe added a
three pointer to leave the scores 64-48.
In the final quarter Lundy Foods gave
their bench players a run. Crescent
pushed hard to close the lead but Ballina
held out for a well earned win with very
precise free throw shooting making a
total a 13 in the quarter and 32 for the
game to finish easy winners 81-72. For
this young Lundy Foods team all players
played very well, with Aidan Tighe very
impressive with seven steals and great
fast breaks.
