Ballina Hawks 46
Ballina Colts defeated local rivals Hawks
in a close game on Wednesday night last.
Colts started with two baskets in a row
from Brain O'Malley to lead 4-0; the same
player added a three pointer to leave the
scores 9-7. Hawks led at the end of the
quarter 19-13 with great shooting from
Anthony Mc Hale.
The second quarter was very close with
O'Malley added another three pointer to
cut the Hawks lead to 19-16. At the end
of the quarter Fergal Moyles scored a
three pointer for the Hawks to leave the
scores 26-22 at half time.
In the third quarter, O'Malley added
another three pointer to close the lead
but Hawks replied with baskets from Mc
Hale and Casey Mannion to lead 34-25. At
the end of the quarter, Kevin Moran And
Geariod Leonard scored good baskets from
inside to cut the Hawks lead to 40-34.
At the start of the last quarter the same
two players scored again to leave score
38-40. Mark Cunningham scored from
outside for the Colts. To leave the
scores 40-44. But the Colts went into a
three-point lead 47-44 with three baskets
in a row from Leonard. James Cunningham
cut the lead to one point 46-47 with a
good outside shoot.
However the seventeen year old and man of
the match Brain O Malley got the final
score of the game to leave the score 49-46.
Mannion had a chance to send the game in
to over time with three free throws for
the hawks after being fouled on the
buzzer, but he missed all three.
