At a recent meeting of the Local History Group Myles Stoney, a direct descendant of the Nugents of Farrenconnell outlined the family history over the centuries since Norman times. Mr Stoney first gave a brief outline of the story of the Norman conquest of England from 1066 onwards and their arrival in Ireland because of the invitation of Dermot McMurrough, King of Leinster who needed help in his fight with O'Rourke of Breffni. Soon the Normans were in charge and Hugh de Lacy ruled Meath. From here comes the Nugent connection. The following is a summary of Mr Stoney's account of the Nugents. The Nugents of Farrenconnell
