Ballinode College Students rise to the challenge of the President’s award.

Six fourth year students successfully completed the Gaisce award, which culminated in the Adventure challenge. In blue skies and sunshine the six, John, Shane, Sean, Adrian, Liam and Lee and their P.A.L set off from the school to hike to “the Glen” a magical “Lord of the Rings” rift valley on Knocknarea Mountain. Tents sprouted like mushrooms in the clearing, wood was gathered for the campfire later. It was off to Culleenamore for action in the dunes, some even braved the water. Then it was time to scale Knocknarea Mountain and enjoy breathtaking views of five counties. It was 9.30 pm when seven weary but happy campers got the campfire going and the sausages sizzling. Singing and ghost stories followed until the small hours. We broke camp the next morning and began planning the next adventure.

On top of Knocknarea On top of the world!
