Rattlebag.

On Tuesday 18th May 2004 RTE RADIO 1 arrived at the school to interview the pupils of 5th and 6th Class on their views on the novel 'The Fire Eaters' By David Almond.Aoife Ni Chormaic flew down[by airplane!] from Dublin with all her equipment to record the children's views on the book for the RTE programme RATTLEBAG. The programme will go on air on Thursday 27th May at 2.45pm and will be repeated on Friday 28th May at 8.30pm.

Aoife asked the class many questions on their views of the book. She was interested in why they liked or indeed disliked the book.

Well done girls and boys you were brilliant!

The boys and girls had various views and interpretations of the book and all gave some opinion on the novel. The responses were original and thoughtful.

This was certainly a memorable occasion for RTE to come to Ballinspittle and for the pupils to get the opportunity to talk on national radio. The pupils did themselves and the school proud.
The book itself is truly a fantastic read and if you need to find out about it or indeed any of David Almond's other novels just ask the pupils of Ballinspittle National School for advice.
Participating in Rattlebag's school novel reviews is part of our efforts to encourage interest in novels and reading amongst the pupils of the school. We are actively encouraging the children to read and want to include as much reading in the daily learning in the classroom as possible. We want our boys and girls to leave the school with a wide selection of books read and with a real interest in literature.
