It was a very successful week for Ballymacelligott and Kerry juvenile Handball with the Club and County securing two All Ireland Runner-up medals, three Munster titles and two Munster runner-up medals. This is a great return from all the players and coaches involved with the Club. The Club was represented at the 60 x 30 All Ireland Finals by three players last weekend. The three players Denis Casey, Stephen McSwiney and Seamus Moriarty played splendidly to gain All-Ireland silver medals.
U15 Singles: Denis Casey (Kerry) was defeated by Sean Maher (Kilkenny) 16/21, 16/21. Denis won his semi-final match the previous day at Ballyporeen, Co. Tipperary when he beat Eamonn Colleran (Mayo) 21/10, 21,10.
U15 Doubles: Stephen McSwiney and Seamus Moriarty (Kerry) were narrowly defeated by Barry Daly and Ronan McNally (Tyrone) 21/20, 19/21, 11/3 in the All Ireland Final which they qualified for when they beat David Hannon & Niall McGrath of Roscommon 21/4, 18/21, 11/7. A special thanks to all the parents and supporters who travelled to the Tipperary venues! Warm thanks to Tom 'Roundy' McEllistrim who helped the players prepare for this important weekend.
Kerry players, all from the Ballymacelligott Club, played Munster Finals in 60 x 30 championship at Broadford, Co. Limerick on 2nd September. It was a unique occasion as boys and girls played at one venue. This was great for the supporters who traveled and the standard of handball played by our players was a joy to behold.
Girl's U13 Singles: Danielle O Connell (Tipp) beat Sandy McSwiney (Ky) 7/15, 15/11, and 15/10.
Girl's U12 Doubles: Emma Fleming and Ashley Prendiville (Ky) got a walk over.
Boy's U12 Singles: Tim Prendiville (Ky) beat Seamus Power (Waterford) 6/15, 15/4, and 15/3.
Boy's U13 Singles: Gary O Connor (KY) beat Joe McGovern (Waterford) 15/8, 15/5
Boys U13Doubles: Padraig McCarthy and Gene Griffin (KY) beat John Cass & Mark Fives (Waterford) 15/4, 15/2. Girl's U16 Singles: Tracy Coona (Tipperary) beat Sharon Daly (Ky) 21/9, 21/11.
