ANNUAL CONGRESS OF IRISH HANDBALL COUNCIL.
The Handball Annual Congress for 2001 took place on Sunday 25th March 2001 in Croke Park. Four Kerry delegates were in attendance.
The meeting was a non-contentious one. In his address to the meeting the President Peter Carter thanked all those involved in promoting Handball at Club, County and Provincial level. He said that here was a hugh amount of work being done by a very small group of people. He said that he was aware that a lot of administrators were overloaded and hoped that the Strategic Development Committee sitting at present would come up with improvements and new ideas that would lighten the load. He said he was well aware that all the people involved had day jobs and he thanked them all for their commitment.

The highlight of the meeting for all the Munster delegates was the election of Tony Hayes of the Cappagh Club, in Limerick as President elect. He defeated Tom Walsh from Lenister. It is the first time that Munster will have a Handball President since 1990. The last Munster President was Michael Tyrell from Tipperary who served as President from 1988 to 1990. Mr. Hayes will serve one year as President elect and will take over as President at Congress 2002. Tony Hayes has been involved in handball all his life. He has been Munster Council Chairman and most recently he chaired the National fixtures Committee. He thanked all the Counties who proposed him and those who travelled to cast their vote on his behalf.
