Why Vegan?
It is estimated that there is currently enough food produced on this planet to feed twice its current human population and yet 14 million starve every year.
Although in theory there is enough for everyone much of it is fed to animals. 92% of all the corn grown in the U.S.A. is fed to cows. It takes 9 times as much land to feed people an animal product based diet than if they were to eat only plant food. Not only does it take 9 times as much land to feed your average omnivore* the land they use needs regular hits of artificial fertilizers. These artificial fertilizers are made using vast amounts of electricity. The worlds diminishing resources of fossil fuels are being released into the atmosphere in order to produce meat, milk and eggs for the Rich Westerners and their Rich West pets. (*omnivore means eats everything, this would seem a very appropriate name)
Take a walk down an "average" high street and you will see many fast food restaurants selling "surplus" food to the already overweight while 20% are undernourished. Some of their clients are so fat they have to go for surgery to get it removed. They are eating our planet in 1/4 pound bites. It's not just the Junk food that's the problem the "wholesome" Home cooked omelette, chicken soup, hot cocoa etc... The animal product based diet is incompatible with a just and sustainable future.
This current "agricultural" system is at the same time decimating soils, wildlife, rural economies and the future viability of much of life as we know it with its chemical and energy intensive practices. Their chemicals poison the soil, kill wildlife, get into our drinking water and are passsed on to us through our food. Even using these biocides there is still not really enough to go round. The agrochemists are using fossil fuels to provide the illusion that "technology" can pull us through. We are constantly told how food production has increased dramatically in the last 50 years but this has been through the use of fossil fuel and nuclear powered fertilizer.
Their madness is a one way ticket to oblivion. Appropriate technology and Vegan Organic Agriculture is the only solution
All over this planet the weather is messed up. The seasons are late and extreme weather is becoming more common. Greenhouse Gas emissions ARE the cause! Everyone knows that smoking causes cancer but for many years the tobacco companies denied the connection; some still do.... Greenhouse Gas emissions ARE the cause of Global Warming! Animal food production is one of the main sources of Greenhouse Gasses.
The Vegan diet uses much less land. It can therefore be grown Organically without taking up all the available land. This would still leave alot of land available for use as forestry. It is possible to use trees to fuel Power Stations (if they are purpose built). The Biomass Power Station does not add Greenhouse Gasses to our atmosphere as the new trees growing (that will in the future fuel it) use all the CO2 that it emits from the trees it burns now.
Diesel can be made from vegetable oil and Petrol can be made from sugar beet. We must stop using fossil fuels. Vegan Organic Diet (Biovegan) would leave land available to produce these sustainable fuels.
Biovegan Agriculture would leave land available for wildlife. Huge areas of the Rainforests and other endangered habitats are lost to meat farmers every year. There is no need for this animal farming takes up too much land. This is a small ball of iron floating through space the nearest habitable planet is so far off we can't see it with the most powerful radio telescopes
