SHANNON AVIATION HALL OF FAME
Shannon Airport played an important pioneering role in the development of world aviation. Shannon Airport is proud of its heritage. Just as flight has grown and developed, Shannon has grown and developed over its near fifty-year history. The Shannon Aviation Hall of Fame was established to draw the general public's attention, to the contribution of these aviators, many of whom have strong Irish connections and who have visited Shannon and have been recipients of its hospitality.
1) Wilbur and Orville Wright (The first developed controlled flight).
2) Louis Bleriot (First to fly the English Channel).
3) Harry Ferguson (Ireland's first aviator).
4) Igor Sikorsky (Built the first passenger airliner).
5) Alcock and Brown (First flew across the Atlantic Ocean).
6) Charles Lindberg (Flew the first solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean).
7) Lady Heath (Flew the first solo flight from South Africa to England).
8) The Bremen Crew (Flew the first east - west flight across the Atlantic).
9) Charles Kingford Smith (First man to fly the Pacific Ocean).
10) Amy Johnson (First woman to fly solo between England and Australia).
11) J.A. Mollison (First man to fly solo east - west across the Atlantic Ocean).
12) Amelia Earhart (First woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean).
13) Wiley Post (First man to fly solo around the world).
14) Charles Blair (Flew the first transatlantic commercial flight).
15) Charles Yeager (First man to break the sound barrier).
16) Yurri Gagarin (First man in space).
17) Valentina Tereshkova (First woman in space).
18) Neil Armstrong (First man to walk on the moon).
