BIOGRAPHIES

The Syrius Piano Trio is fast making an impression on the international stage after winning a place on Music Network Ireland's Young Musicwide Scheme in 2006, following which the trio performed an all Shostakovich programme on tour in Ireland and at the Weill Hall at Carnegie in New York.

The trio, comprising three young exciting talents formed two years ago. Bobby Chen, piano and Elizabeth Cooney, violin, both studied in London at the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music respectively. Jane Cords-O'Hara, cello, studied at the Royal Northern College Manchester before moving to New York where she is now based.

All three are keen and active chamber musicians and share a particular enthusiasm for the advocacy of new music, particularly the works of Irish composers. In September 2008 the trio premiered Irish composer Ben Dwyer's piano trios as guests of the Musica Nova contemporary music festival in Brazil; their concert received a standing ovation and was filmed for future broadcast on national Brazilian television. In Spring '09 they plan to release their debut CD on the Toccata Classics label.

Domenico Codispoti - piano

Born in Catanzaro in 1975, Italian pianist Domenico Codispoti embarked on his international career when he was awarded 1st prize at the 1996 International Piano Competition in Pinerolo Italy, followed by 1st prize at the prestigious Pilar Bayona International Competition in Zaragoza (Spain) and at the Ferrol International Piano Competition, both in 2001. He has been also awarded the 2nd Prize in the International Premio Jaen with the Special Prize for the best performance of Spanish Music.

Graduating with First Class Honors from the Conservatory and the Accademia Musicale of Pescara under the tutelage of Bruno Mezzena, Domenico Codispoti became a recipient of the Joel Estes Tate Scholarship at Dallas' Southern Methodist University, studying with Joaquin Achucarro. Since leaving his native country in 2001, Domenico's busy recital schedule has brought him to Europe, America and Asia where audiences and critics alike have been captivated by the warmth, elegance and sensitivity (Diario Jaen) he brings to his playing. These qualities teamed together with the most complete technique (El Ideal Gallego) have brought Domenico into collaboration with some of the world's leading orchestras.

His concerto appearances include performances with Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, Brno Philharmonic, Filarmonica Italiana, Iceland Symphony, Sinfonica de Galicia and Warsaw Radio Symphony Orchestra under conductors such as Daniele Agiman, Rumon Gamba, Kirill Karabits, Tomas Koutnik, Andrzej Straszynsky and Christopher Warren-Green. In America he played under Carlos Piantini, Hector Guzman and Adron Ming with the Irving Symphony, San Angelo Symphony and Lewisville Lake Symphony, and he appeared in Mexico with the Filarmonica de Jalisco, in Guadalajara. His performances are featured regularly on Italian RAI, Spanish TVE and RNE, Hungarian and Icelandic national radios, as well as American television.

In recent years, he has regularly given masterclasses in Conservatories throughout Europe and America, as well as being on the faculty at the International University of Andalucia in Baeza, Spain. Domenico is also in regular demand as a jury member for international piano competitions including the Ferrol International Piano Competition in Spain and Premio Rendano in Italy.
