THE CELEBRATION TOUR !
The celebrated Irish pianist and composer, PHILIP MARTIN, returned in 2006 from his native Dublin where he premiered his third piano concerto with the National Symphony of Ireland. This concerto, entitled "The Nine Orders of Angels" adds an important work to his already distinguished concerto repertoire of over 60 concertos. He has used these in his many concerto appearances in Ireland, the United Kingdom and abroad, with all the BBC orchestras, the Halle, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, City of Birmingham Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and those in London such as the London Sinfonietta, the LSO and the RPO.
Late in 2005, he toured Mexico and played recitals of Debussy, Liszt, Philip Martin and Louis Moreau Gottschalk in the Palace of Fine Arts. He was immediately requested to return for further concerts. 2007 marked his 60th birthday and he is making a major National and International tour under the direction of ArtScope, his Irish management. In March of 2007, his performance of Gershwins Concerto in F met with particular critical acclaim. This and many other American concerti are but one of his specialities. He has recorded an eight - volume set of CDs for Hyperion Records of the music of the colourful 19th century American composer, Louis Moreau Gottschalk, as well as a critically acclaimed recording called "The Maidens Prayer" which is heard repeatedly on Classic FM
A prolific composer, Philip Martin has written numerous orchestral, chamber, instrumental, and vocal works including 3 piano concertos, a harp concerto, 7 piano trios, and over 300 songs. Recent major works include: In Dublin's Fair City, a celebration for soloists, chorus and orchestra, a work commissioned by the Dublin Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the Millennium. He has also written music for theatre and film. Recent works include his first Symphony -Mystic Nativity, conducted by William Eddins with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, and in 2006 his third Piano Concerto-The Nine Orders of Angels, was conducted by David Brophy and the NSO. in Dublin. Philip Martin teaches piano and composition at the Birmingham Conservatoire and is a member of Aosdana, Ireland's exclusive academy of creative artists and is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of London.
Philip Martin was awarded a FRAM by the Royal Academy of Music in London presented by Yehudi Menuhin. This was shortly after his very successful performance of Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini at a BBC Promenade Concert which was televised on " Omnibus at the Proms". His teaching, both private, and at the Birmingham Conservatoire, where he is a senior lecturer, has produced a new generation of prize-winning pianists. Constantly in demand, Philip has given masterclasses in such diverse countries as Japan, Mexico, the USA and Canada, where he has held several residencies, and at the Paris Conservatoire in France. He now lives in The Malverns, England, where his teaching expertise in piano and composition is much sought after.
