HISTORY.

Among the aims and objectives of this club is the promotion of sea angling and to promote the excellent sea angling venues in the Kilmore area. To achieve this we run yearly coaching clinics for young anglers and as a result we have one of the strongest junior sections in Ireland. The introduction of the Winter Shore Festival has been instrumental in the promotion of South County Wexford as one of the finest angling areas in Ireland.

Kilmore Sea Angling Club is the oldest angling club in County Wexford. It was first established in 1956 under the leadership of the late Eamonn Doyle. Eamonn was the first secretary of the club and remained in that position until he resigned in 1974. His replacement was none other than the late Joe Monaghan.

It was under Joe's guidance, excellent leadership and great organisational ability that the club flourished. Membership grew to an all time record of seventy-six members in the early eighties. The club dominated all the local competitions and were Leinster champions on a couple of occasions. Kilmore members helped with the running of the C.I.P.S. world championships here in Wexford in September 1981, and the All Ireland Master Angler in 1982, which was held in the White Whole (app four miles east of Kilmore Quay). It was also in this period that we had our first representative on an Irish team. That honour went to Robert (Bob) Clooney R.I.P.

Like everything else the club somehow managed to fall into a steady decline, thankfully everything settled down and the committee at the time set about the task of turning things around. It was decided to concentrate on the junior section of the club. The club are once again enjoying plenty of success as you can see from our awards page.

Over the past couple of years several anglers have made the Irish National Team. The full list of anglers that have represented Ireland can be viewed on our 'Awards Page'

The Winter Festival was an outstanding success, every year we try to improve the event. We now have an extra match on the Friday night and the prize fund now stands at app €7000.

COMPETITIONS AND EVENTS.

The club arranges twelve competitions for our Master Angler series. These competitions vary from rough ground fishing in the Hook and Carnesore Point, to clean beaches around the Wexford coast, and there are a couple of flounder venues thrown in to cover all aspects of shore angling.
We also run an open shore competition in Wexford harbour and the winter festival.
