Skelligs Rock

The Skelligs Rock is an early Christian Monastic Settlement & Bird Sanctuary located 14km from the South West Kerry Coast. Majestic views of the Skelligs can be seen from the bedroom windows of our B&B in St. Finians Bay. We arrange trips to the Skelligs and Puffin Island with local boatmen. Departure times are usually between 10:30 and 11:00 AM in the morning. Return to the mainland is usually 4:00 PM in the afternoon.

Golf

There are many superb Golf links in the Kerry area with nearby Waterville (15 mins) probably the best of the lot. Many famous players come to Waterville annually, such as Tiger Woods, Mark O'Meara and many others. Payne Steward was a regular visitor until his unfortunate death and a large life size monument has been erected in his honour beside the club-house. This has become a popular tourist attraction.

Birdwatching

Birdwatching is a very popular activity in the region. With many variety and species of bird to be seen, there's no shortage of viewing pleasure. Kerry has the widest range of bird's habitats in Ireland. It is also world headquarters for breeding storm petrels and has big colonies of gannets, shearwaters, puffins, and most other species of seabird. There are plenty of these to be seen on the Skelligs Rock, and Little Skellig, which is home to over 46,000 gannets!

Horse Riding

Horse Riding is available nearby. Beach gallops and other treks can be enjoyed within a few kilometers of St. Finians Bay.

Fishing

While enjoying your stay in the area, rock fishing & deep-sea angling is freely available. There is no shortage of areas to fish from, as the coast is a very good breeding ground for all types of fish such as Bass, pollock, mullet, ray, plaice and mackerel. Since our shores are blessed with the warm water from the Gulf Stream, fish find these warm plankton-rich waters irresistible. Local fishermen also arrange boat / angling trips out around the coast for tourists and trips can be arranged from nearby Glen Pier or from Portmagee.

Diving

Another sport, which is available locally, is diving. With many hot spots around the Kerry coast, there is an abundance of coastline diving areas. Valentia Island is one such area, which has its own diving club. This is a must visit for those interested in diving or sea sports. These waters are home to a beautiful world of coral and many varieties of other tropical sea plants and fish. Diving trips can also be arranged locally in St. Finians Bay with Glen Pier Boats.

Walking

The St. Finians Bay area is a haven for hikers & hill walkers, with scenic trails and breathtaking views of mountains and sea.
