The School Curriculum

The school follows the Primary School Curriculum as outlined by the Department of Education and Science. At present a revised curriculum is being introduced by the D.E.S. and this process will take a number of years and has implications for the school in terms of inservice training for teachers and change of textbooks etc.

The emphasis of the Revised Curriculum centres on success in learning, curiosity, collaboration, inclusiveness, literary and numeracy, skills and concepts. It is hoped that these principles will promote learning and teaching contexts which will enable children to meet the challenges of the 21st Century.

There are seven curriculum areas in the Primary School Curriculum. The Religious Education Programme remains the responsibility of the Diocese of Kerry and is also undergoing revision.

The overall vision of the curriculum is to offer each child the opportunity to reach his or her full potential, by providing educational experiences which are appropriate and relevant to the challenges and requirements of life

The evaluation of the Schools Curriculum is the responsibility of the Department of Education and Science Inspectorate which visits the school on a regular basis.
