In line with our aim of promoting health in our school, we have developed a healthy school lunch policy.
GOAL
The goal of this healthy lunch policy is to encourage children to have lunches which are
- Low in fat
- High in fibre
- Low in sugar
- Low in salt
REGULAR CHOICES
For healthy school lunches choose the following food regularly
- Milk, cheese and yoghurt (low choices frequently)
- Fish, chicken, lean meat or eggs
- Fresh fruit and vegetables
- Wholegrain bread
- Low fat butter or low fat spread
TREAT FOODS
We recommend that parents offer children foods such as fresh fruit, yoghurts or wholegrain/digestive biscuits in preference to sweets, crisps and chocolate, which we recommend are limited to a Friday. Fizzy drinks, crisps, lollipops, etc. are not permitted in school.
SAFETY
We request that all drinks be in a beaker or screw-top bottle which can be brought home each day. Under no circumstances should glass bottles be brought to school. Pupils should bring lunch to school with them as they are not permitted to leave the premises at break times.
BREAKFAST
It has been well documented that children who have a nourishing breakfast perform better in school. We ask parents to ensure that their children have time to eat breakfast before they come to school.
We would greatly appreciate your assistance in implementing this policy.
