Scoil an Chroí Ró-Naofa (Roll No 20004T) is a co-educational national school under the patronage of the Bishop of Kerry, Most Rev Bill Murphy, operated under the Rules for National Schools as outlined by the Department of Education and Science. The present school is a result of the amalgamation in 1994 of Castletownbere Boys National School (No 16931) and Scoil Muire Gan Small National School (No 18394).
The school staff consists of Principal, Deputy Principal, Class Teachers, a shared Remedial Teacher, Resource Teacher, a part-time Home School Community Liaison Teacher, Classroom Assistants, Secretary, part-time Caretaker, and Transport Escorts and Cleaning Staff.
School starts at 9.20 a.m. and finishes at 3.00 p.m. Pupils may arrive at school at 9.10 a.m. and school will open at this time when weather is unsuitable for pupils to remain outdoors. The Board of Management reminds parents that supervision will not be in place prior to 9.10 a.m. The Resource Class are supervised from 9.00 a.m. to facilitate their transport arrangements.
The school has a Catholic ethos but warmly welcomes children of all denominations and nationalities. Each child is cherished equally in a caring environment and the school strives in assisting each pupil to achieve his or her potential. The Board of Management, Teachers, Staff, and Parents work in partnership in an effort to achieve this goal.
The school has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment and extension at a cost of €1.7m under the National Development Plan 2000-2006.
