Scoil An Chroí Ró Naofa

School Information

The Resource Programme

The children in the Resource Programme in Scoil an Chroí Ró-Naofa are drawn from a wide area of the Beara Peninsula. They have the service of a driver and two escorts to accompany them on their journey to school. They are very different personalities who have very different educational needs.

The Resource Teacher, together with a number of classroom assistants work to foster a learning environment and learning experience appropriate to the individual needs of the children in the class. They are supported in this by Co-Action West Cork which provides the services of a psychologist, speech therapist, physiotherapist and occupational therapist.

The children in Resource Class enjoy being involved in many aspects of school life and work with their fellow pupils in a range of activities from art projects to visits to places of interest in the local community. Individually they also work with their fellow pupils in a variety of curricular areas.

Although they are from many places around Beara, the children in the Resource Class are very much part of the community of Castletownbere. They are encouraged to discover as much as they can about the community whilst at Scoil an Chroí Ró-Naofa by going to various places in the community and by welcoming visitors from the community into their classroom.
