The Curragh
Once the seat of the kings of Leinster, the hilltop fort on knochaulinn is a significant landmark in Kildare. The circular wall that surrounds the fort is some 1350ft across and about 15ft high, and unusualy, a defence ditch runs around the inside. The site was settelled from the stone age and abandoned by the kings in the first few centuries A.D. But recent excavations, which have unearthed the foundations of wooden buildings, suggests that the fort may have been lived in until around A.D 400.
