"Big Bug Show" at Beech Hill College (November 2003) |
|
The "Big Bug Show",
as seen on Six-One News, came to Beech Hill College, Monaghan. The show was organised
by Mr Tony McHugh, Science Teacher at the school, as part of Science Week Ireland 2003.
Beech Hill College was one of the few schools in the country lucky enough to see the
show on site. Picture left shows Jim the school caretaker holding the "Chile Rose" Tarantula spider. |
During the show different
volunteers got to hold the various creatures and at the end of the show two volunteers
were asked to come up in front of the group and eat dead silkworm larvae!!!
Needless to say there were many screams during this part of the proceedings. On the right we see Gabriel in the process of eating (dead) silkworm larvae. It's hard to guess whether he is enjoying it or has a look of horror on his face! |
|
Everyone really enjoyed the event and thought it was a fascinating insight into the lives of bugs and insects. If Jim got away alive Andrew reckoned he would give the "Chile Rose" a try as well (left) and below we see Daniel admiring the giant millipede (below left) and Conor surveying the barb on the Tarantula (below right). |
