ABOUT BIG SMILE

Big Smile is a group of young artists who will carry out a number of activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina in August 2000 involving workshops and performances in the areas, music, painting, photography, sculpture and theater. All projects will be realised in collaboration with children and teenagers of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The main intention is to build up positive experiences, to focus on happiness and a better future. All work is carried out on a personal level.

Bigsmile's activities and workshops will be documented through video and photography. There is possibility for a public exhibition later this year (hopefully the CITY ARTS CENTRE in Dublin?!)

Another aspect of the project is the gift-exchange and dialogue between school children in Dublin and Sarajevo based on cultural identity. This activity constitutes a reciprocal listening and interest which should be developed through the engagement with art. Partnership will take place with two Secondary Schools in the suburbs of the two cities, Dublin and Sarajevo. The idea is to engage in what can be called a cultural dialogue in which school-children in Dublin each create a piece of work which will be brought to Bosnia Herzegovina by our group. Likely participants in this venture are teenagers from St. Nessans Community School Baldoyle and a serbian School in Republica Serbska. This project currently is in progress.

Recently Big Smile went public with a poster campaign sponsored by T.D.I., Adshell, and Euroscreen Group, which commenced on February 28th 2000 for two weeks. The posters were located around the Dublin area.
The images on the poster are the outcome of a group project between the SOS Children's Village in Sarajevo and a member of Big Smile, which took place in September last year. The poster is both, a representation of the positive and forward looking notion of the recent project as well as an appeal for collaboration in this year's Big Smile venture.

We, furthermore intend to bring new toys and clothing for all the participants in the workshops of this years project.
