Tribune Issue Date : Fri March 24th 00
Yes it's confirmed that at 7.30am on Friday 21st of April Birr
RFC will depart from Emmet Square in Birr with some 30 plus members on
what promises to be a trip of a lifetime.
Iberia Airlines will take the group to a place where the words cold/wet
relate only to a ceaveza. They will take them to a place which is the
steak capital of the World, and a place where some two million readers
of the 'Morning Star' (Buenos Aires leading paper) will pick up their
paper one morning shortly and will read about these 30 plus individuals
making this epic journey.
How will they do that I hear you wonder? Thanks to the 'President of the
Friends of Argentina Society' namely Tom Ganley who hails from Moate,
a man with contacts everywhere and his help has been enormous and from
him the club obtained an invaluable contact, the 'Hurling Club' in Buenos
Aires, which happens to be a senior Rugby Club and it is there they will
play competitive fixtures. Birr don't think they will have them quaking
in their boots however. They, will however have the upper hand when it
comes to playing hurling, yes you read correctly.
Tom Ganley will be on hand on the 8th of April to answer any questions
so be there at 7.30pm. There will be plenty of information to follow just
watch this space.

Los hombres del equipo de hurling (deporte mezcla fútbol australiano

invitados por Hurling. Ayer vieron el partido con SIC y, para extrañar
menos su país, siguieron la tradición: tomarse toda la birra.
