Advantages of Membership

Why join us? Well, here are some of the advantages........

1. Insurance. Bishopstown Hillwalking Club is affiliated to the Mountaineering Council of Ireland (MCI). As a member, you are automatically covered by insurance just in case an accident happens.

2. Magazine. As a member of the BHC and the MCI, you will recieve a quarterly colour magazine.

3. Discount Scheme. As a member, you can avail of discounts in several of the stores in Cork that sell hillwalking gear. Stores participating in the discount scheme are :
Hillwalkers / Union Chandlery, 4-5 Pemrose Quay.
Great Outdoors, 23 Paul Street.
Maher Outdoor Sports, Parnell Place.
Tents & Leisure, Thomson House, York Street, off McCurtin Street.
In some cases, the amount saved on the discount can actually exceed the membership fee.

4. Guided Walks. Each walk will have a walk leader so there is no requirement for members to navigate (although it can help!). The walk leader will have walked the route before and issues like the best and most interesting route, parking and access issues will have been sorted out beforehand.

5. Type of walks. We have a large number of walks on our calendar which will suit different fitness levels. Just start off at the easiest level, get used to the different levels and then select what grade you like doing.

6. Number of walks. We have walks every weekend, and sometimes two per weekend. You never have to wait too long before there is a walk that suits your fitness level.

7. Weekly E-Mails. Every Friday, an e-mail is sent out to all member giving details of the walks for the next few days. These e-mails can also include details of additional walks not on the original printed calendar and information about other club activities such as foreign trips, meetings, etc.
