Club History
Melbourn BC was formed in 1970 by residents of Melbourn Estate in Bishopstown. The early founders included Tom Aherne (Senior) and Michael McGrath. Originally adults only played in the hall of Colaiste an Spioraid Naomh Secondary School. A few years later a juvenile section was formed and lots of the members went on to become famous players.
Bishopstown BC was formed in May of 2001 by Sean Cotter. Bishopstown BC was approached by Melbourn BC in September 2002 with a view to amalgamation as Melbourn BC numbers had dwindled down to just a handful. Bishopstown BC agreed and the two clubs merged to form Melbourn-Bishopstown Badminton Club. Now the club has its largest number of members ever and its largest number of teams ever.
