Sports and Activities

  • Our pupils take part in many extra curriculum activities, which they enjoy immensely. They all play games- football, hurling, soccer, basketball, volleyball, table tennis and skittles.
  • We participate in games at competition level both at Cumann na mBunscol level and at parish level.
  • In October our boys ably assisted by some girls were winners in the C division of the Primary schools Division of Cumann na mBunsol. Having defeated Lough Gur NS and Galbally NS in the early rounds, we played Knockainey in the final where we had great success.
  • In November our girls played in a Basketball blitz in Hospital Community school-we defeated Knockainey NS, and Angelsboro N.A. in the early rounds advancing into the final against Hospital. We gave a very good account of ourselves but were narrowly beaten.
  • Presently we are taking part in swimming lessons in Tipperary at the Sean Treacy swimming pool-which are enjoyed by all.

Drama classes

  • Drama classes were held during our first term.
  • All the children took an active part in these classes and enjoyed performing in our Christmas concert in the local hall. The hall was artistically decorated by the pupils-displaying art & craft activities relevant to the concert.
  • On Christmas Eve all the children were involved in a re-enactment of the Christmas story at Mass. Again this was done through the medium of drama, carols, music and dance.
  • We provided entertainment for our senior citizens at Christmas time. We played music, danced, sang and performed some sketches. We had great fun and enjoyed the experience.

We are very proud of our school tin whistle band. We hope to expand our range of musical instruments in the future.

Trips

  • Our senior pupils enjoyed a trip to the Belltable Theatre to see Earwigs. They also visited the Hunt museum. This was a very worthwhile trip combining history with drama.
  • All of the school enjoyed a trip to the Marion hall in Tipperary to see " Scrooge" performed by transition year students of the Abbey and St. Annes School. This musical was loved and enjoyed by every body.
  • Our senior pupils made a worthwhile trip to savour live drama in the form of a pantomime " Treasure Island" in the Marion hall Tipperary.

Table quizzes

  • Our senior pupils enjoyed testing their general knowledge when they represented their school in Glenbrohane and Mitchelstown- all with great success.

Art Competions

  • Art plays an important part in the curriculum of our school. Congratulations to two of our pupils, a junior infant & a 6th class pupil who were winners in the Credit Union art competition.
Also congratulations to six of our pupils who were winners in a fire safety competition.

Music

  • Music plays a vital place in our school-as all pupils from 2nd to 6th have a repertoire of tunes on the tin whistle.
  • Our tin whistle band is in the process of being expanded to include piano accordion, keyboard, drum & bodhrán.

Choir

  • The children learn hymns and sing for special occasions Christmas, Easter, St. Patricks Day, First Communion and confirmation.

Savings

  • The good habit of saving is encouraged. Sammy stamp is on sale in the school every Monday.
